IGCSE 0606 Additional Mathematics tutor

Additional Mathematics has a reputation among students, and most of it comes from two places: the calculus and the trigonometric identities. The class spends the most time there, and works the questions line by line.

What we cover

The full 0606 syllabus

0606 asks for method as much as answer. Marks live in the working, so the class writes the working out in full and then reads the marking scheme against it.

Functions

Domain and range, composite and inverse functions, and the modulus function.

Quadratics and polynomials

Completing the square, the discriminant, the factor and remainder theorems, and cubic factorisation.

Indices, surds and logarithms

Laws of indices, rationalising, and solving exponential and logarithmic equations.

Straight-line graphs

Linearising relationships and reading gradient and intercept as constants of a model.

Circular measure

Radians, arc length, sector area, and the composite-region problems that follow.

Trigonometry

Identities, general solutions, and graphs with amplitude and period changes.

Series

Binomial expansion, arithmetic and geometric progressions, and sum to infinity.

Differentiation

Chain, product and quotient rules, stationary points, rates of change, and small increments.

Integration

Standard integrals, definite integration, area between curves, and kinematics problems.

In their words

Additional Mathematics, from the students who sat it

“I was a little intimidated by Additional Mathematics because my seniors had said it was extremely challenging. However, it turned out to be easier than what most people said, thanks to the clear and straightforward teaching style of Mr. Dixon.”

David NhkumIGCSE 0606

“He brings up all sorts of ‘weird’ questions that could potentially appear in the exam and ensures that every student understands a topic before moving on.”

War War Shawe WinIGCSE 0606

“During his classes, he covers all the possible questions that students may face in exams with great detail, which boosted my confidence.”

FAQ

Questions parents ask about the 0606 class

Should my child take 0606 at all?

If they are going on to A Level Mathematics, it makes the first term far easier. If they are not, and 0580 is already hard work, it is worth a conversation first. Write to me and I will tell you honestly what I think.

Can a student join if they have not started calculus?

Yes. Differentiation is taught from the beginning. What matters more is that the algebra is solid, because every calculus question is an algebra question underneath.

Can we do 0580 and 0606 together?

Yes, they run on different evenings. Write to me and I will tell you what taking both looks like in practice.

Is there material to work from between classes?

A short problem set each week, plus the revision notes and mock papers in the shop if you want more.
